Biografia di José Molina
Nato a Madrid nel 1965, all'età di 11 anni José Molina ha iniziato a frequentare diverse scuole d'arte, poi, mentre studiava all'università di belle arti di Madrid, ha lavorato nella pubblicità fino all'età di 35 anni, quando ha deciso di dedicarsi completamente alla pittura. Ha presentato le sue opere in prestigiose istituzioni: Museo della Triennale, Milano; Fondazione Stelline e Fondazione Mudima, Milano; Real Academia de España, Roma; Museo Poldi Pezzoli, Milano; Reggia di Caserta; Museo della Scienza e della Tecnologia e Acquario Civico, Milano; il Museo Civico, Bressanone; il Palazzo Ducale di Modena. Le sue opere sono state esposte a Hong Kong, New York e Miami dove ha preso parte all’edizione 2018 di Context Art Fair. Ha una presenza stabile e forte in Asia. Vive sulle splendide rive del lago di Como.
José Molina scrive: Sono un figlio del mio tempo. Spagnolo, nato a metà degli anni '60, sono cresciuto con le conseguenze e le vestigia del regime totalitario franchista, che in parte ha contribuito a plasmare il mio percorso artistico, insieme al mio impegno sociale e culturale. Vedo l'arte come uno strumento di interazione e, come artista, sento di avere una responsabilità per ciò che mi circonda. Ma la mia arte non si limita a raccontare l'essere umano nella sua dimensione sociale. All'inizio del 2000 ho deciso di intraprendere un viaggio catartico dentro di me. Ho rinunciato a una solida carriera nella pubblicità per dedicarmi completamente all'arte. La mia prima raccolta, Morir para vivir, è la metafora del percorso che ho intrapreso. Conoscere me stesso mi ha spinto ad approfondire i vari aspetti della natura umana, quindi la ricerca introspettiva ha iniziato ad essere accompagnata da quella antropologica. Ho scelto di utilizzare una tecnica “fotografica”, con un intento documentaristico per far sembrare i miei personaggi il più reali possibile: se non fossero così reali, ci sentiremmo più distaccati da loro. I miei dipinti presentano anche elementi inquietanti, che si allontanano dalla realtà e rendono le mie opere più visionarie e surreali. Questo mi permette di esplorare in profondità l'umanità, uso il surrealismo come strumento di indagine, come linguaggio di verità nascoste. Questi personaggi visionari e allo stesso tempo feroci non vogliono essere una provocazione, ma spingere lo spettatore ad avventurarsi nella natura multiforme dell'animo umano, per innescare una riflessione. Il mio percorso artistico è caratterizzato da cicli-collezioni. Ogni singolo ciclo, composto da più opere, esplora un tema diverso, come un racconto. Scrivo spesso testi che devono fungere da amplificatori per le opere stesse e che possono essere correlati o divergenti dalle mie immagini. Più recentemente mi sono avvicinato alla scultura creando due nuove collezioni Bites and I feel, così da rendere più solide e tangibili le emozioni ei mondi interiori rappresentati nei miei dipinti e disegni.

Born in madrid in 1965, aged 11 José Molina started attending several arts schools, then, while studying at madrid’s university of fine arts, he worked in advertising until the age of 35, when he decided to fully devote himself to painting. He presented his works in prestigious institutions: Triennale Museum, Milan; Stelline Foundation and Mudima Foundation, Milan; Real Academia de España, Rome; Poldi Pezzoli Museum, Milan; Royal Palace of Caserta; Museum of Science and Technology and Civic Aquarium, Milan; the Civic Museum, Brixen; the Ducal Palace in Modena. His works have been exhibited in New York at the Able Fine Art gallery and in Miami at Context Art Fair. He has a stable and strong presence in Asia. He lives on the beautiful shores of lake Como.
Artist Statement
I am a child of my time. Spanish, born in the mid ‘60s, I grew up with the consequences and remnants of Franco’s totalitarian regime, which in part contributed to shaping my artistic path, along with my social and cultural commitment. I see art as a tool for interaction and, as an artist, I feel I have a responsibility for what surrounds me. But my art does not merely tell about the human being in his social dimension. At the start of the year 2000, I decided to undertake a cathartic journey within myself. I gave up a solid career in advertising to devote myself completely to art. My first collection, Morir para vivir is the metaphor of the path I have undertaken. Knowing myself prodded me to delve deeper into the various aspects of the human nature, hence the introspective research started being accompanied by an anthropological one. I have chosen to use a “photographic” technique, with a documentary intent to make my characters look as real as possible: if they were not so real, we would feel more detached from them. My paintings also feature unsettling elements, which draw away from reality and make my works look more visionary and surreal. This allows me to explore humanity in depth, I use surrealism as a tool to investigate, as the language of hidden truths. These visionary and at the same time fierce characters are not meant as a provocation, but to prompt the spectator to venture into the multifaceted nature of the human soul, to trigger a reflection. My artistic path is characterized by cycles-collections. Each single cycle, consisting of a number of works, explores a different theme, like a tale. I often write texts that are meant to act as amplifiers for the works themselves and that can either be related to, or diverge from my images. More recently I have approached sculpture creating two new collections Bites and I feel, so as to make the emotions and the inner worlds represented in my paintings and drawings more solid and tangible.
